Hi, I’m Christine. I’m currently majoring in biochemistry at Oregon State University and my goal is to become a researcher, ideally in the medical field. I’m not getting financial support from my family, so with the scholarship given me, I am able to support myself and spend more time on academics. I can afford to take more classes at OSU, to study abroad and get hands-on experience with research in other countries, and I can afford to spend more time in the lab instead of working. I’m currently doing undergrad research in bioengineering, specifically studying the chemical interactions of biological surfaces and their environment. One of the projects in this lab is studying the adhesiveness in frog tongues and potentially recreating that for medical usage (like for sutures). This scholarship support has given me more opportunity to pursue my passions and develop the skills to hopefully make a difference.
